Coffee/caffeine....

Post  Thor on Mon Mar 07, 2011 2:22 pm

As I finish drinking my americano with almond milk from this morning I started reading about the whole caffeine and paleo thing...

Robb wolf technically says caffeine in appropriate doses is ok... but then he's also done a number of stints of 30 - 40 days caffeine free.

This also happened to be the latest post by Melissa at whole9
http://whole9life.com/2011/03/caffeine-clean-four-months-without-coffee/

I know robyn is going caffeine free, which I think is incredible, I just don't think it's a good time for me to try and ween myself off my 8 shots of espresso a day...

I'm definitely going to limit myself to 1 a day. (down from averaging 2 - 5... and we're talking venti americanos or very large cups :S) but I'm curious how many other people have decided to cut it out completely? Checkout the whole9 post, there's lots of reason to get rid of it altogether!

Thor,

I think 1 cup is totally fine, the reason I'm doing it is because I have troubles sleeping and I think half the time I'm running on coffee because I'm so busy and tired.
Some times I have 3-4 cups so the paleo challenge was a perfect time to quit. Man, I really miss it. I have had a headache ever since but I feel like I have more energy and not so groggy. The more research I do on caffeine I'm really glad I have.

Read this article if you get a chance and I'm reading the book "Caffeine Blues"if you want to borrow it after me Very Happy

Ten important Reasons to Avoid Caffeine
www.chetday.com/nocaffeine.htm

Again, 1 cup is fine in the morning, but when you start relying on it and drinking 3-4 cups a day to keep you going, this is when its bad. Trying to listen to my body and get more rest.

I've decided to cut it out completely. I noticed last week that if I had some in the morning then I crashed around noon and wanted more. I've gone the last few crazy days of all work and no play and little sleep without and I've noticed that my stress level is actually lower and I don't have the same afternoon low. I find it takes me little longer to wake up but once I am awake its all good! We'll see how long I can keep it going for though - I sure wanted it this morning!

That's interesting... keep me updated on your energy levels, mood, especially stress levels.

I've never been a coffee drinker- the stuff puts me through the roof- but I thought I would at least throw it out there that a good strong black or green tea is a good alternative and maybe a 'patch' solution for those of you who are feeling the coffee headaches/mood fluctuations. I'm not sure of the science but everyone says that tea is easier on the bod than coffee.
