Bison Roast slow cooker
Alright kids I have some large slabs of bison meat I want to throw into my slow cooker... a shoulder... a roast... etc. a lot of recipes I look at involve wine and strange taboo items. Anyone have any favorite ways to go about this? can I do it like a roast chicken just with veggies on the bottom and a little olive oil?
Re: Bison Roast slow cooker
Hey Thor,
I have used the slow cooker with the roast before. The thing about bison is it is so dry if cooked too long or without liquid which I think is why the wine is popular. I use a bit of chicken or beef stock but olive oil and veggies will work too. I wouldn't cook it longer than 2 hours for a small size roast. Put lots of spices on it and it will be yummy. The other thing I have done if it does come out dry is drizzle olive oil over it at meal time.

Re: Bison Roast slow cooker
Thanks patti! great tips, exactly what I was looking for!
it's a little guy so i'll keep the cook time lower than most recommend. (3-4hrs on high or 8-10 on low is normal)
and robyn, I have 3 of them so I'll eat the first one as a test run... I'll bring some in if I figure it out by the 3rd time through
